The Boston Red Sox came into Baltimore and returned the favor to the Orioles by beating them 7-3 in the home opener. Just as the Orioles did last week in spoiling Boston’s home opener, the Red Sox did the same on Thursday.

Ryan Mountcastle’s (1 for 4, 1 R, 2 RBI) two-run homerun in the first inning matched Rafael Devers’ homer in the top of the inning, Pedro Severino (2 for 4, 1 R, 1 RBI) rounded out the Orioles’ scoring with a 4th inning homerun; he is hitting .318 on the season.

Boston took the lead in the sixth when Franchy Cordero’s single knocked in Christian Vazquez. The Red Sox added to their lead with RBI hits by JD Martinez and Marwin Gonzalez in the 7th and finished it off with Enrique Hernandez’s homerun off of RHP Tyler Wells.

Manager Brandon Hyde channeled his inner Earl Weaver in the fourth; he was ejected for arguing a hit by pitch/strike on Rio Ruiz.

Matt Harvey started for the Orioles and surrendered 4 runs on 7 hits with a walk while striking out 5 over 5.0 innings. The Orioles needed five relievers to finish the game with Wade LeBlanc being the most effective (1.0 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 K).
