Chris Waters suffered his fifth loss of the season as the Tides fell to Durham , 9-5. Waters went five innings, allowing seven runs – five earned – while dishing up three home runs. It was another less-than-stellar performance by Waters who has yet to win a game in Triple-A since his promotion from Bowie in late April.

Offensively, the Tides banged out ten hits while putting together productive innings in the third and fifth. Back-to-back RBI’s from Scott Moore and Luis Terrero were followed two innings later by RBI’s from Chris Roberson, Mike Costanzo and Terrero.

In relief, Roberto Novoa allowed one run on five hits in his two innings of work while Rocky Cherry gave up one unearned run in the eighth while striking out two.

On Sunday the Tides and Bulls will play the series finale beginning at 5:05 p.m. Norfolk ’s Ryan Bukvich (5-2, 3.45 ERA) will take on Durham ’s Jeff Niemann (3-2, 4.46 ERA).

NOTES:

The Baysox lost to Altoona in a rain shortened contest on Saturday night, 5-0 in eight innings. Starting pitcher David Hernandez tossed six, no-hit innings in which he walked four and struck out four. Hernandez has now given up just one hit in his past two outings and has accumulated nine walks and nine strikeouts in that time period.

Altoona was unable to capitalize until Baysox reliever Felix Romero entered the game in the seventh inning. Romero allowed a solo home run in the seventh before the floodgates opened in the bottom of the eighth. A three-run home run and a fielding error by Romero ultimately buried the Baysox as the rain began to fall and the game was halted with one out in the inning.

Offensively, Bowie was held to three hits on the night; each of which were singles. On Sunday, the Baysox and Curve will conclude their three game series beginning at 7:05 p.m. Bowie ’s Chorye Spoone (2-2, 4.62 ERA) will take on Altoona ’s Yoslan Herrera (3-7, 3.42 ERA)

NOTES:

  • Blake Davis, Mike Rodriguez and Steve Torrealba each had hits for Bowie .

The Keys could not hold down Potomac's power any longer. The Nationals splurged for seven extra base hits as Frederick fell 6-2 on Saturday night at Pfitzner Stadium in Woodbridge, VA.

Nationals 1B Bill Rhinehart (2), CF Francisco Plasencia (3) and DH Leonard Davis (13) all homered while Frederick continued to struggle at the plate.

Trailing 2-0, Keys SS Todd Davison doubled home 2B Miguel Abreu to bring Frederick within one run in the third inning.

Later in the contest DH Justin Johnson (2) homered leading off the eighth inning for Frederick's final run. Johnson had his first multi-hit game of the season with a two-hit night.

Potomac started major league rehabbing pitcher Odalis Perez who allowed one run in four innings. Perez was the Washington Nationals opening night starter when they opened brand new Nationals Park this season.

The Keys will try to fend off a sweep attempt from Potomac Sunday night at 6:05 p.m. Frederick will return home for Fan Appreciation Weekend Thursday, June 26th at 7:00 p.m. at Harry Grove Stadium.

Joe Nowicki and Joe Mahoney each pounded solo homers that got Delmarva on the board in the fourth. An inning later, the Joes both doubled, leading to another Shorebird run and paving the way for Delmarva’s 6-5 victory over the Suns. Nowicki and Mahoney combined to go 4-7 with four extra base hits, three runs scored, and three RBI.

Closer Mick Mattaliano recorded the final three outs in the ninth to pick up his 15th save and preserve the victory for Sean Gleason. Pitching for the first time since throwing a scoreless inning in Tuesday’s All-Star Game, Gleason tossed five innings and picked up his fourth win of the season.

The Shorebirds trailed 3-0 after the Suns scored one in the second and two in the fourth, but leapfrogged over Hagerstown with four runs in the fourth inning. The two home runs from the Joes as well as a two-out two-run double from Matt Angle gave the Shorebirds their first lead of the series.

The Shorebirds bullpen once again held strong, allowing just one unearned run in four innings. Lefthander Brett Bordes got into trouble in the seventh when Hagerstown recorded back-to-back singles with one out. A hit-by-pitch loaded the bases and Bordes gave way to righthander Brian Parker. Two batters later, Parker had consecutive strikeouts and the Shorebirds escaped the jam.

The Shorebirds will strive for a split of the four-gamer with the Suns Sunday evening in Salisbury .

In relief, Joe Esposito received the hold with two innings in which he allowed one run while striking out two. Fredy Deza held on for the save, his first, with a perfect inning and two strikeouts.
