Hitting/Running: Urrutia is supposed to be an advanced hitter with a good judge of the strike zone who won't bring a ton of power or speed. He reportedly is a better hitter form the left-side of the plate and some beleive despite his age (he'll be 26 by spring training) he has some room add some bulk and that could translate to some more power.Urrutia batted .397/.461/.597 in 305 at-bats with 12 home runs and more walks (32) than strikeouts (23) in 2010, the last year he played in Cuba after being suspended for the 2011 season after a failed defection. Defense/Intangibles: Urrutia is considered a corner outfield with an arm more suited for left so that's suggests he doesn't have a ton of foot speed. He's considered a good athlete who will be an adequate outfielder, but he won't be known for his defense. Conclusion: It's really hard to know what the Orioles have in Urrutia since he's been unable to come to the States. Saying that, if he's as good as advertised, he may be to hit for a high enough average and get on base enough to be a solid number two hitter and everyday left fielder in the big leagues. He hasn't played a whole lot of late so he could be rusty, but the Orioles believe he could come very quickly once he gets back on the field. |
