Orioles Win 5-4
Steve Pearce - A 2-run blast gave the O's the early 2-0 lead. An RBI single later tied the game at 3-3.
Mike Belfiore - 2 perfect innings makes this the best spring pitching performance by an Oriole pitcher thus far.
Trayvon Robinson (w/hat tip to Pridie) - Hit a stand-up double when he pinch-hit for Jackson, following up on his good first game. Jason Pridie would drive him in with a pinch-hit RBI double to give the O's a 4-3 lead.
Yamaico Navarro - Had a double yesterday and followed it up today with a walk and an RBI single to make it 5-3. The O's would end up needing that run to win the game. He's perfect on the spring so far.
The Solid Efforts
Jair Jurrjens - Allowed 1 run in 2 innings, but a great first inning and solid velocity reports (at least in the first inning) means this is a positive outing.
Ryan Flaherty - No hits but worked a walk and had a very nice play at SS, building his case that he can play adequately just about anywhere.
Lew Ford - 2 hits and the first Oriole stolen base of the spring.
Danny Valencia - 2 hits on the day including a double. Nice throw home from 1B to cut down Loewen at the plate.
Kevin Gausman - Threw gas, but allowed a walk, double, and sac fly to decrease the O's lead to 5-4 in the 8th. Started to have a good come back when got two quick outs in the bottom of the 9th, but walked Loewen and got pulled for Rob Delaney. Tallied two strikeouts. Tough call on this outing, but I'll give him a break and call it a solid first effort. Can_of_corn noted a 13MPH difference between his FB and CH.
Try Again Next Time
Troy Patton - Coughed up the lead early in the game with a 2-run bomb to Bautista. Allowed 2 singles, a double, and a home run in his only inning.
Alexi Casilla - 0-3 in the leadoff spot with 3 strikeouts and 3 left on base.
Daniel Schlereth - Allowed a hit, wild pitch, hit by pitch, walk, and what should have been a 2nd wild pitch that was instead called a passed ball on Teagarden. Squirmed out of it with a DP ball.
Adam Loewen pinch ran for Encarnacion in 5th and stayed in to play 1B, misplaying the throw from SS that would be Ford's 2nd hit of the day. Reimold, Betemit, and Jackson went 0-fer in their first starts of the spring. Canzler had a nice play at 3B after moving in from RF - raise your hand if you knew Canzler could play 3B. Somehow no errors were tallied with the hodge podge lineup.
O's win 5-4 and are 2-0 in Grapefruit Ball.
Happy Birthday Ed
