Arrieta sharp, but O's blow lead late in 4-3 loss

    Written by Tony Pente

    Pirates - 4
    Orioles - 3

    Notes and observations:

    - Jake Arrieta went four shutout innings allowing just two hits while striking out five. This was huge for a guy trying to make the team as the 5th starter.
    - In retrospect, Zach Britton only went two innings, allowing one run on one hit while striking out two. The fact that Arrieta started and went four innings and Britton releived and went two gives Arrieta the clear edge in the 5th starter's competition.
    - Adam Russell not only blew the save, but took the loss and now carries an unsightly 8.44 ERA.
    - LJ Hoes went 2-for-3 and is now batting .375 this spring.
