Orioles trade Johnson to A's for Weeks

    Written by Tony Pente

Various sources indicate that the Orioles traded closer Jim Johnson to the A's for minor league second baseman Jemile Weeks and possibly a player to be named later.

Tony's Take: Johnson was going to be way too expensive after arbitration and despite coming off two 50-plus save seasons, it made sense for the Orioles to move him. Weeks was once a top prospect who flamed out after a terrible sophomore season with the A's, but he rebounded in the minors a bit last year putting up a .376 OBP in AAA. He will go into the second base competition with newly acquired Cord Phelps, Ivan De Jesus and Ryan Flaherty if he's not filling at 3B at the start of the season.

This probably spells the end of Brian Roberts career in Baltimore.
