    Orioles Prospect HOTSHEET: Mid-May Edition

    Written by Chris Slade

    1) Hunter Harvey – RHP – Delmarva Shorebirds (Low A)

    Age: 19

    OH Prospect Rank: 3

    Last Two Weeks:

    GS W L ERA IP H HR BB K AVG GB% FIP
    3 1 2 1.53 17.2 12 1 4 21 .194 30.2% 2.75

The teenage stud continues to impress down at Delmarva. I did a performance check-in on his fellow 2013 first rounders the other day. I already considered Harvey the biggest steal of the first round, and considering how weak that draft class is performing so far, that opinion has only been enhanced.

    2) Jon Keller - RHP - Delmarva Shorebirds (Low A)

    Age: 21

    OH Prospect Rank: 28

    Last Two Weeks:

    G W L ERA IP H HR BB K AVG GB% FIP
    5 2 0 0.69 13 5 0 3 14 .119 56% 0.89

You really have to impress me to make the HOTSHEET as a relief pitcher and that's exactly what Keller has done lately in a multi-inning relief role for the Shorebirds. Last year's 22nd rounder out of Tampa relies heavily on a mid-90's sinker that he has shown improved command of this year. Perhaps, it's time to try him as a starter?

    3) Drew Dosch - 3B - Delmarva Shorebirds

    Age: 22

    OH Prospect Rank: Unranked

    Last Two Weeks:

G AVG AB H HR RBI 2B 3B BB SO OBP SLG OPS
    16 .357 57 20 2 4 3 0 7 15 .439 .509 .948

I mentioned Dosch recently in a forum post that he should be considered an emerging prospect. He didn't get much offseason hype as a 7th rounder from Youngstown State who missed last summer with a knee injury but many, including myself, considered him a steal for the O's in that round.

    4) Steven Brault - LHP - Delmarva Shorebirds (Low A)

    Age: 22

    OH Prospect Rank: 17

    Last Two Weeks:

    GS W L ERA IP H HR BB K AVG GB% FIP
    1 1 0 0.75 12 6 0 1 15 .143 28.6% 0.95

The amount of flyballs Brault is allowing is a bit concerning going forward but that shouldn't take anything away from the two dominant May starts he has put together with the Shorebirds. Like I said last time, he ought to be moving up to Frederick rotation soon.

    5) Christian Walker – 1B – Bowie Baysox (AA)

    Age: 23

    OH Prospect Rank: 16

    Last Two Weeks:

G AVG AB H HR RBI 2B 3B BB SO OBP SLG OPS
    16 .313 64 20 4 14 3 0 6 11 .371 .547 .918

Christian Walker has continued to swing a hot bat at AA and this power breakthrough looks legit to me. As frequent minors forum poster RZNJ points out here, Walker is on pace for a 30 homer season if he keeps this up all year.

    6) Glynn Davis – CF – Frederick Keys (High A)

    Age: 22

    OH Prospect Rank: Unranked

    Last Two Weeks:

G AVG AB H HR RBI 2B 3B BB SO OBP SLG OPS
    18 .324 71 23 1 6 6 1 8 16 .400 .479 .879

Davis has 5 stolen bases as well so far in May and continues to swing a hot bat in the leadoff spot for the Keys. The Maryland native ought to see a promotion to Bowie sometime soon.

    7) Trey Mancini - 1B - Delmarva Shorebirds (Low A)

    Age: 22

    OH Prospect Rank: Unranked

    Last Two Weeks:

G AVG AB H HR RBI 2B 3B BB SO OBP SLG OPS
    17 .358 67 24 0 8 3 1 2 11 .386 .433 .819

Mancini makes his debut on the HOTSHEET due to his hot bat so far in the month of May. However, as a 22-year old bat first prospect in Low A, he needs to start tapping into that raw power soon or it will be hard to consider him a prospect going forward.

    8) Dariel Alvarez - CF - Bowie Baysox (AA)

    Age: 25

    OH Prospect Rank: 11

    Last Two Weeks:

G AVG AB H HR RBI 2B 3B BB SO OBP SLG OPS
    17 .299 67 20 3 12 1 1 1 10 .324 .478 .802

Alvarez continues to hit the ball wit authority down at Bowie. His plate discipline has slipped a hair this month and it would be nice to see him draw a few more walks. Overall, he's mashing at Bowie and deserves a callup to AAA at some point.

    9) Parker Bridwell - RHP - Frederick Keys (High A)

    Age: 22

    OH Prospect Rank: 15

    Last Two Weeks:

    GS W L ERA IP H HR BB K AVG GB% FIP
    3 1 2 2.95 18.1 10 2 9 16 .164 40% 4.35

Overall, it has been a disappointing first go-round for Bridwell with the Keys. However, his most recent outing in which he took a no-hitter into the 9th is the main reason he finds himself on the HOTSHEET. Hopefully, he can build off that outing and string together several quality starts in the coming weeks.

    10) Tim Berry - LHP - Bowie Baysox (AA)

    Age: 23

    OH Prospect Rank: 12

    Last Two Weeks:

    GS W L ERA IP H HR BB K AVG GB% FIP
    3 1 0 3.93 18.1 16 2 5 17 .235 43.4% 3.75

The ERA is a bit high but Berry has continued to pitch well so far in May, showing a solid strikeout rate and opponent batting average.

    The Not Sheet…Uh Oh…

Suk-Min Yoon - RHP - AAA - 1-2, 9.88 ERA, .349 AVG - No light at the end of the tunnel for Yoon's statistical performance so far in May. Starting to look like Tsuyoshi Wada 2.0

Mike Wright - RHP - AAA - 1-2, 6.86 ERA, .296 AVG - From HOTSHEET material two weeks ago to Not Sheet material this time. Hopefully, just a blip on the radar.

    Branden Kline - RHP - A+ - 2-0, 4.87 ERA, .329 AVG - Ditto for Kline.

Tyler Wilson - RHP - AA - 1-3, 5.06 ERA, .345 AVG - Wilson has maintained a strong K-rate and FIP (1.93), but there's no denying that he's been getting hit around more frequently in May.

Adrian Marin - SS - A+ - .250/.311/.286 - Continues to post paltry numbers for the Keys, although this slash line is an improvement over April's.

    Two Catchers Picking It Up:

Chance Sisco - C - A - .303/.343/.435 in 33 at bats - That's what Sisco has done in 9 games since returning from the DL. If he keeps that up, he'll be making his rounds on the HOTSHEET at the end of the month.

Michael Ohlman - C - AA - .250/.372/.417 in 36 at bats - After missing about 5 games the first week of May, Ohlman has picked it up as of late and is currently riding a 7-game hit streak.

    Blast From The Past:

There's a former Top 100 prospect at Norfolk who would've no doubt, not even close, have placed at number one on the HOTSHEET if he were still a prospect. He also hit a walkoff homer recently. That player's name is: Brett Wallace (1B/DH)

G AVG AB H HR RBI 2B 3B BB SO OBP SLG OPS
    17 .391 64 25 5 14 3 0 8 19 .466 .672 1.138

If he continues to hit anything close to this over the next few months, we may be seeing him in Baltimore.

    Prospects On The DL:

Henry Urrutia - OF - AAA

Dylan Bundy - RHP - AA

Zach Davies - RHP - AA

Eduardo Rodriguez - LHP - AA
