    Orioles Prospect HOTSHEET: Mid-June Edition

    Written by Chris Slade

We are now more than two weeks into the month of June and Summer is right around the corner. The thermometers aren't the only things getting hot these days. It's time for the mid-June HOTSHEET to see who or what else is heating up as the Summer months approach us.

    1) Mike Yastrzemski - CF - Delmarva Shorebirds (Low A)

    Age: 23

    OH Prospect Rank: UR

    First Two Weeks of June:

G AVG AB H HR RBI 2B 3B BB SO OBP SLG OPS
    12 .345 58 20 4 16 3 4 1 18 .356 .741 1.097

Yaz's grandson continues to stroke the ball down at Delmarva which leaves him on the suspect radar for me. He'll need to prove he can hit like this at higher levels before we take him serious as a prospect but so far he's looking like a very nice find in the 14th round. Update: He has been promoted to Frederick (6/19)

    2) Chance Sisco - C - Delmarva Shorebirds (Low A)

    Age: 19

    OH Prospect Rank: 9

    First Two Weeks of June:

G AVG AB H HR RBI 2B 3B BB K OBP SLG OPS
    13 .362 47 17 1 8 5 0 5 13 .434 .532 .966

Sisco continues to swing an impressive bat, especially for a 19-year old fresh out of high school last year. His overall numbers look even more impressive when you remove his 3-for-25 against left handed pitching: .342/.402/.490 in 149 at bats.

    3) Trey Mancini - 1B - Delmarva Shorebirds (Low A)

    Age: 22

    OH Prospect Rank: Unranked

    First Two Weeks of June:

G AVG AB H HR RBI 2B 3B BB SO OBP SLG OPS
    14 .321 56 18 2 9 3 1 2 4 .355 .518 .873

Mancini continues to rake and earned a well deserved late addition to the SALLY league all-star game this week. He's struck out in just 6.5% of his plate appearances so far in June. He doesn't have anything left to prove at Delmarva and no one is blocking him at Frederick so he ought to receive a callup sometime in the near future.

    4) Michael Ohlman - C - Bowie Baysox (AA)

    Age: 23

    OH Prospect Rank: 6

    First Two Weeks of June:

G AVG AB H HR RBI 2B 3B BB SO OBP SLG OPS
    11 .341 41 14 0 4 3 1 5 11 .404 .415 .819

Boy, am I glad to finally see Ohlman grace us with his presence on the HOTSHEET. He's been off to a slow start in his first test of AA but appears to be finding his groove lately at the plate. Let's hope it continues.

    5) Steven Brault - LHP - Delmarva Shorebirds (Low A)

    Age: 22

    OH Prospect Rank: 17

    First Two Weeks of June:

    GS W L ERA IP H HR BB K AVG GB% FIP
    3 2 0 2.37 19 15 0 2 15 .191 43.4% 2.25

Brault has been Mr. Consistency, earning a spot on each of the HOTSHEET's so far this season. Not to sound like a broken record but here comes my standard line about how "he's a polished college lefthander that doesn't have anything left to prove at Delmarva." He ought to be headed to Frederick soon.

    6) Mitch Horacek - LHP - Delmarva Shorebirds (Low A)

    Age: 22

    OH Prospect Rank: UR

    First Two Weeks of June:

    GS W L ERA IP H HR BB K AVG GB% FIP
    2 1 1 2.25 12 8 0 3 13 .182  48.4% 1.78

Horacek continues to dominate at Low A ball and doesn't have much left to prove as a polished college lefty. Righthanded batters have hit .293 against him which presents a concern at higher levels. But, the overall performace to date has been terrific for Horacek who has struck out nearly a batter per inning.

    7) Conor Bierfeldt – RF – Delmarva Shorebirds (Low A)

    Age: 23

    OH Prospect Rank: UR

    First Two Weeks of June:

G AVG AB H HR RBI 2B 3B BB SO OBP SLG OPS
    11 .282 39 11 3 12 5 0 6 9 .371 .641 1.019

Bierfeldt's overall numbers still suggest he's organizational slugger and not a legitimate prospect but he's showing sings so far in June that he is beginning to make adjustments and could be in for a big second half of the season. I remain intrigued by his power potential.

    8) Branden Kline - RHP - Frederick Keys (High A)

    Age: 22

    OH Prospect Rank: UR

    First Two Weeks of June:

    GS W L ERA IP H HR BB K AVG GB% FIP
    3 0 1 3.06 17.2 17 1 6 22 .254 38.3% 2.63

Kline turned in the best outing of his minor league career so far June 7th when he went 7 scoreless with five hits, no walks, and 11 strikeouts. Sign me up for more of that

    9) Dariel Alavarez - CF - Bowie Baysox (AA)

    Age: 25

    OH Prospect Rank: 11

G AVG AB H HR RBI 2B 3B BB SO OBP SLG OPS
    16 .295 61 18 2 12 2 0 3 4 .318 .426 .744

Alvarez's spectacluar performance at AA continues with a steady month of June so far, striking out just four times in his last 16 games.

    10) Drew Dosch - 3B - Delmarva Shorebirds

    Age: 22

    OH Prospect Rank: UR

    First Two Weeks of June:

G AVG AB H HR RBI 2B 3B BB SO OBP SLG OPS
    14 .302 53 16 0 4 2 0 9 10 .413 .340 .753

Dosch will be the starting third baseman for the North division in the SALLY all star game this week. He's still hitting the ball well in June with the power numbers down a bit.

    The Not Sheet…Uh Oh…

Mike Wright - RHP - AAA - 0-3, 12.27 ERA, .434 AVG - Wright's struggles in May have only worsened in June. Not what we like to see out of a top ten prospect. I wonder if something is wrong with him physically.

Eduardo Rodriguez - LHP - AA - 1-2, 6.64 ERA, .321 AVG - The good news for E-Rod is that his FIP for his four June outings is 3.95 and his most recent effort (6 IP, 5 H, 2 ER, 0 BB, 4 K) is a step in the right direction.

Glynn Davis - CF - High A - .196/.260/.283 in 46 at bats - Davis has seen his hot bat cool off drastically in June with his season average dipping below .300 for the first time.

Hunter Harvey - RHP - Low A - 0-1, 14.85 ERA, .394 AVG - Yikes. What happened? Harvey had been cruising along until his first two starts in June which have been disastrous. Hopefully, just a bemish on an otherwise impressive season.

    Prospects On The DL:

Henry Urrutia - OF - AAA - Big Hank, as mentioned last time, underwent Sports hernia surgery on May 9. He'll be out at least a two more weeks judging by the initial prognosis.

Josh Hart - CF - A - .273/.293/.273 - Not a fun month for Hart as his production slipped and to cap it off, tore his meniscus recently and will likely miss at least 4-to-6 weeks of action.

    Back From The DL:

Dylan Bundy - RHP - AA - The boy wonder has returned to us! He made his first start of the season at Aberdeen and it went well (5 IP, 5 H, ER, 0 BB, 6 K). Reports are he was throwing 91-94 mph with his fastball.
