Todays game was influenced by poor umpiring and Chris Young's dominance.
Bud Norris walked Cano and Morales in the first inning. Unusual for Bud. He often just hits them. He struck out Seager so no damage. Other than extra warm up. A clean second inning brought his pitch count back into line. Jesus Sucre hit a blooper to lead off the Seattle third. It was their first hit of the game. Dustin Ackley doubled down the line with the shift in place on an 0-2 pitch. Cano was then intentionally walked. Only one out had been recorded. Kendys Morales was HBP. He swung at the pitch, so it was a huge umpiring error. Seager then singled driving in a second run. Then a big strike out. Another single with two out scored the third run of the inning, but Mariner base running mercifully ended it right there. Another run scored before Bud was replaced in the in the sixth inning
Final Line: 5 IP, 6 H, 4 ER, 3 BB, 6 K,
T.J. McFarland pitched two and two thirds innings allowing a hit and no rns. Just what the Doctor ordered.
Brad Brach came in for a three pitch strikeout.
Chris Young and his baffling 87 MPH fastball baffled the Birds until Chris Davis walked in the second. Nick Markakis walked with two out in the third, then Delmon Young singled for the first hit of the game. But Adam Jones popped out. Nelson Cruz was HPB to start the fourth inning. Three pop ups ended it right there.
Other than a couple hits by Delmon Young, the Orioles could not hit Chris Young. Everone popped up or struck out.
In the eighth inning with two out a HBP, a four pitch walk, a two base error and a single by J. J. Hardy scored three runs for the Orioles. The Chris Davis two run error could easily be been ruled a hit.
David Lough walked in the ninth inning, but he was caught stealing for the final out of the game. Delmon Young was at the plate.
Defensive Highlights/ Lowlights
Ryan Flaherty made a nice play after a bloop single eluded J.J. Hardy.
Key Moments In The Game
Kendrys Morales struck out for the second out in the critical third inning with the bases loaded. The ball then hit his back foot and he was awarded first base scoring the first run and opening the flood gates for a three run inning. It ultimately decided this game. That particular play is not able to be challanged.
Other Notes/ Musings
Manny Machado returned to the Orioles lineup after missing several games with a back injury.
The Yankees lost.
