    Orioles Fall in Finale; 8-to-3

    Written by Michael Williams

Today's game got started at 1:35 ET with  Lance Lynn and Kevin Gausman on the mound. The Cardinals scored twice in the first inning forcing Kevin Gausman to throw 37 pitches. The Orioles continued to try to over come continuing Cardinals leads until Zach Britton gave up a three run homer in the ninth inning. That sealed the deal

    Starting Pitching

Kevin Gausman was unable to understand the rookie home plate umpire's zone today. It was bad for both pitchers, but Lynn adapted and Gausman did not. He was fortunate to only allow three, though he did have a couple innings where he looked like himself.

    Final Line: 5 IP, 8 H, 3 ER, 2 BB, 6 K, lose

    Relief Pitching

T.J. McFarland allowed a run in two innings.

Andrew Miller allowed a leadoof double and his first earned run as an Oriole.

Zach Britton  permitted two baserunners after the initial batter struck out. He then surrendered a three run home run to Peter Bourgos in the 9th on a 3-1 pitch.

The hitters were not on their game today, stranding runners in scoring position with less than two out several times.

Nelson Cruz knocked in the intital Orioles run with a double.

Nick Markakis went 4-for-5 and scored the first two runs.

Delmon Young scored the Orioles final run.

    Defensive Highlights/ Lowlights

Jon Schoop had a lackluster day at second today, possible because he was not scheduled to play and filled in when J.J. Hardy was unable to play because of a sprained thumb. Adam Jones cut down a run at the plate with a fantastic throw from center.

    Other Notes/ Musings

Manager Buck Showalter was ejected when a transfer play at second base was improperly reviewed and the out recorded by Jon Schoop was overturned.
