Skanar's Hitting Prospect Report Through 8/25

Great week for Sisco, Mancini, and Urrutia. Ohlman and Hector Veloz, for once, were OK. Yaz was bad, and Marin and Schoop hit for power in limited playing time.

    Gulf Coast
    C Chance Sisco, age 18. Season: 101 PA, .372/.476/.477 (.953) 15 BB (14.9%), 16 K (15.8%). Since 8/18: 15 PA, .308/.400/.538, 3 K.
Sisco continues to impress just about every time he plays. He's hitting for average and getting on base, and the power numbers have been getting slowly better.

    C Jonah Heim, age 18. Season: 82 PA, .181/.280/.250 (.530) 10 BB (12.2%), 12 K (14.6%). Since 8/18: 15 PA, .231/.333/.308, 5 K.
Heim didn't hit terribly, but he didn't hit particularly well either. Season numbers still ugly.

    C Alex Murphy, age 18. Season: 90 PA, .241/.344/.380 (.724) 11 BB (12.2%), 13 K (14.4%). Since 8/18: 16 PA, .188/.188/.375, 3 K.
Only three hits, but all were doubles. Would still like to see him hitting better.

    OF Josh Hart, age 18. Season: 123 PA, .207/.296/.270 (.566) 12 BB (9.8%), 19 K (15.4%). Since 8/18: 20 PA, .150/.150/.250, 5 K.
Hart didn't hit well, and his season numbers are now quite poor. The curse of Orioles 2nd-round (ish) picks continues.

    Aberdeen
    1B Trey Mancini, age 21. Season: 234 PA, .329/.379/.461 (.840) 15 BB (6.4%), 37 K (15.8%). Since 8/18: 24 PA, .364/.417/.591, 2 K.
Mancini contines his hot stretch, with 3 more XBHs. Though it seems he doesn't walk much, he also is doing an OK job limiting strikeouts. He's probably not the sort of hitter who works deep into counts. Maybe Edwin Encarnacion is the absolute best-case scenario?

    3B Hector Veloz, age 19. Season: 213 PA, .209/.275/.332 (.607) 17 BB (8.0%), 67 K (31.5%). Since 8/18: 24 PA, .250/.375/.450, 6 K.
Another solid, even good week, as Veloz's creep toward respectable hitting numbers continues. Still way, way too many strikeouts, though.

    OF Mike Yastrzemski, age 22. Season: 187 PA, .273/.375/.418 (.793) 22 BB (11.8%), 35 K (18.7%). Since 8/18: 28 PA, .231/.286/.308, 5 K.
Not the 0-fer he put up last week, but still not good at all. Has fallen quite far from his peak numbers, and given his age, doesn't have much farther to fall to no longer be a prospect.

    Delmarva
    SS Adrian Marin, age 19. Season: 386 PA, .273/.321/.366 (.687) 23 BB (6.0%), 84 K (21.8%). Since 8/18: 14 PA, .214/.214/.500, 2 K.
Returned from a week-long hiatus to hit a double and a homer, then only 1-for-9 in his other two games.

    Frederick
    C Michael Ohlman, age 22. Season: 387 PA, .308/.409/.524 (.933) 53 BB (13.7%), 87 K (22.5%). Since 8/18: 25 PA, .238/.360/.429, 6 K.
Solid week that, given Ohlman's spectacular season, brought down his overall numbers. Ks remain a concern.

    CF Glynn Davis, age 21. Season: 367 PA, .226/.310/.308 (.618) 39 BB (10.6%), 71 K (19.3%). Since 8/18: 25 PA, .304/.360/.435, 7 K
Davis had a good week! Needs a lot more like that, though.

    OF Dariel Alvarez, age 24. Season (A+ only): 41 PA, .436/.463/.641 (1.104) 2 BB (4.9%), 1 K (2.4%). Since 8/18: 26 PA, .333/.385/.458, 1 K
Coming down to earth a bit. Still hitting pitchers below his level very, very well. Only 1 strikeout in 41 PA isn't totally unheard of, but it's pretty amazing even so. Notably, has 1 SB and 2 CS so far.

    Bowie
    1B Christian Walker, age 22. Season (AA only): 68 PA, .242/.319/.323 (.641) 6 BB (8.8%), 10 K (14.7%). Since 8/18: Did not play
    Injured.

    Norfolk
    SS Jonathan Schoop, age 21. Season (AAA only): 245 PA .253/.301/.395 (.696) 12 BB (4.9%), 50 K (20.4%) Since 8/18: 19 PA, .368/.368/.526, 4 K
Limited playing time for some reason, but hit great when he played. Four out of five games were away from Norfolk.

    CF Xavier Avery, age 23. Season (AAA only): 308 PA, .237/.314/.309 (.623) 30 BB (9.7%), 70 K (22.7%). Since 8/18: 3-for-8, 1 K
Only played two games. Looks like he got injured.

    OF Henry Urrutia, age 26. Season (AAA only): 84 PA, .354/.393/.481 (.874) 5 BB (6.0%), 9 K (10.7%). Since 8/18: 20 PA, .316/.350/.526, 3 K.
Urrutia is back in the minors and back to hitting.

Dropped from list: Yariel Vargas (another bad week)
