HHP: The Bottom of the Eighth Inning

    by socalbirdfan By Jon Tanis

After we took the lead in the 8th, the bottom half was one of the most thrilling in recent memory. Chris Tillman, with only a one run lead, induced a weak popup from the first batter that almost saw a collision between Ryan Flaherty and David Lough. Flaherty went high to try and snare the ball and almost did while Lough slid underneath trying not to lose focus with Flaherty flying by as he slid on his back pocket to make the catch.

The next hitter also blooped a ball but this time to RF where Nick Markakis came on a full sprint and laid out in a dive to make a spectacular catch. The effort would illicit a fist pump from Tillman in celebration.

Maybe it was in pure adrenaline he faced Torii Hunter, the same guy who had homered off him earlier. He got ahead of him early then stayed ahead with a nasty CB. Hunter would later call the pitch "scary". Then he reared back and fired 94 mph FB for the K to end the inning.

I was on my feet, back aching but I didn't care. What an inning! Great job guys, great job, Chris.
