Did you know this about the 2011 Orioles?

    - Nick Markakis’ 1.6 WAR is 4th on the team and behind Robert Andino’s 1.8? Markakis has never had a WAR below 2.7 and his total WAR over the last three season (7.1) is 2.7 below what he put his 1st three years in the big leagues (9.8). Markakis has beena  below average dWAR player for three straight years in RF.

    - Matt Wieters’ 3.8 WAR is 3rd best amongst catchers in the Major Leagues behind Detroit’s Alex Avila (5.4) and Arizona’s Miguel Montero (4.3). Can we put the bust talk to rest now?

    - Brian Matusz has the worse ERA (10.68) in the history of baseball amongst pitchers who started 100% of their games in one season and made at least 10 starts.

    - The Orioles have now lost at least 90 games in 9 of their last 11 season. From 1954-2000 the Orioles had only had five seasons total of 90 or more losses.

    - Kevin Gregg has the worse WHIP (1.69) of any Orioles closer ever who saved at least 20 games and has the 13th worse WHIP in the history of baseball amongst those who saved 20 or more games. In his last four seasons he has a 21% Blown Save percentage.

    - Is Nick Markakis’ bat speed slowing down? Over the last four years is wFB rating has fallen from 24.5 in 2008, 9.9 in 2009, 4.7 in 2010 and -1.4 in 2011. While is ISO power numbers have fallen from .185 in 2005, .160 in 2009, .138 in 2010, and .120 in 2011. That’s not a good trends folks.

    - Mark Reynolds’ 30.9% K% is his lowest of his career and his .254 ISO is his second best.

    - At the same time, Reynolds’ 2.8 oWAR from his bat was almost completely overshadowed by his -2.4 dWAR. He was brutal at 3B and has been below average at 1B overall, so maybe it’s time to see if he can play LF or even RF? He has the arm to play out there for sure and he’s not the slowest guy around.

    - From Aug 22nd to Sep 9th, Ryan Adams started 17 games over a 19 day stretch and hit .310 (18-58) with a .365 OBP and a .744 OPS with all four of his doubles. He’s played in three games since September 9th.

    - Pedro Strop has the 8th best WAR (0.5) amongst Orioles pitchers this year despite pitching in just 7.2 IP.

    - In seven starts since coming back the minor league Zach Britton has gone 4-2 with a 3.57 ERA.

    - Although they played significantly different defensive position, JJ. Hardy’s  .262/.302/.483/.785 line looks similar to the much maligned Tony Batista had at the same age with the Orioles .244/.309/.457/766. Both had the exact 2.8 WAR. Batista put up a .235/.270/.393/.663 line the next season at 29 years old.
