Sox turn the tables, stun O's in ninth |
 |
Fresh off their most incredible win in team history, the Orioles suffered their most devastating defeat of the season, blowing a four-run ninth-inning lead in an eventual 6-5, 11-inning loss to the Red Sox. After Brad Bergesen’s stellar eight-inning start, the O’s handed a 5-1 lead in the ninth to their two best relievers, only to watch them fall apart. Jim Johnson allowed a free pass and a homer, and George Sherrill (pic) issued three walks and a two-out, game-tying, bases-loaded single to complete the meltdown. Julio Lugo’s 11th-inning RBI brought in the go-ahead run, while the O’s offense didn’t get a man on base after the fourth inning. Boy. The Orioles sure know how to toy with our emotions, huh?
