Sunday’s starter, John Means, deserved a better outcome for the effort he put in for the Orioles. The southpaw made a quality start: 7.0 scoreless innings with 3 hits allowed, 2 walks and 9 strikeouts. He was matched by Texas starter Kyle Gibson, who threw 8.0 scoreless innings and allowed 4 hits while striking out 6. Neither starter factored into the decision as the Rangers won 1-0 in 10 innings.
The bottom of the 10 started with Charlie Culberson at second and Travis Lakins, Sr. pitching. Eli White bunted and reached first base when Culberson was thrown out at third on a nice play by Lakins, Sr.. A wild pitch put White on second and Willie Calhoun drew a walk.
Lakins, Sr. struck out Isiah Kiner-Falefa before a second wild pitch advanced the runners. Nick Solak walked to load the bases. Nate Lowe’s single gave the Rangers a walk-off win.
The Orioles squandered a scoring opportunity in the top of the 10th when Maikel Franco, who reached third on a Ryan Mountcastle fly out, was thrown out at home following a Trey Mancini single.
Ramon Urias (2 for 4, 1 2B) was the lone offensive bright spot for the Orioles.
