Means faced the minimum 27 batters and was a strike three wild pitch away from a perfect game. Sam Haggerty reached first on a dropped third strike but was subsequently cut down trying to steal second base by Pedro Severino.
Means tossed 113 pitches, 79 for strikes, and struck out 12 Mariners batters. Evan White was the hard luck batter as he struck out 3 times in all 3 at bats.
Means’ no hitter was the first Orioles solo pitcher no hitter since HOF pitcher Jim Palmer did so on August 13, 1969 against the Oakland A’s.
Batting .320 on the season, Cedric Mullins went 1 for 4 with 1 run scored. Pat Valaika homered and went 2 for 4 with 1 run scored and 1 RBI.
