The Baltimore Orioles returned to Oriole Park at Camden Yards on Monday to begin a three-game series with the Minnesota Twins and an eight game homestand. Since the day ends in “Y”, the result was the same; the Orioles lost 3-2 in 10 innings, extending their current losing streak to 14 games.

In what was a tight contest, the teams were tied at one at the end of nine innings of play. The Twins started the extra frame with Rob Refsnyder on second base. He advanced to third on a Kyle Garlick groundout and scored on an Adam Plutko (1.0 IP, 2 R, 2 H, 1 K) wild pitch. One batter later, Jorge Polanco homered to put the Twins up 3-1. The inning ended with another DJ Stewart leaping catch at the fence, this time off of an Alex Krilloff fly ball.

The home half of the 10th started with Maikel Franco on second. A Stewart double (1 for 4, 1 RBI) scored Franco and cut the lead to 3-2 with a man on second with no one out. Stewart advanced to third on a Hansel Robles wild pitch. Stevie Wilkerson worked an one out walk to put runners on the corners.

Austin Wynns (0 for 4), who took Chance Sisco’s spot (optioned to Norfolk) on the 40-man roster, struck out and Freddy Galvis (0 for 2) flied out to right to end the game.

Ryan Mountcastle homered in the fifth inning and finished the day 1 for 4 with a run scored and a RBI. Trey Mancini went 2 for 4 and Cedric Mullins went 1 for 4 with a double.

Anthony Santander (1 for 4) accounted for the Orioles sixth hit against Minnesota pitching.

Jorge Lopez provided the Birds a chance to win with a quality start. The righty tossed 6.0 innings and allowed 1 hit while walking 2 and striking out 7; he committed a balk in the fifth inning as well.

In the end, Plutko was tagged with the loss.
